Unity for a Better Community (U4ABC)

21st Century Education   Information Implementation

Propelling people and communities into the Information Age

About our Executive Director

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

 Chinese proverb

Why listen to Unity for a Better Community?   Why should you believe that we can help you?

Our founder and CEO, Dr. Gerald Higginbotham, is no stranger to struggle and having doors slammed in his face.  At seven years old, he witnessed the Watts riot in his own back yard.  The image burned its way into his psychic, and never left.

Take less than three minutes and see what others have to say about Dr. Gerald and his work.

You can also read his biography in the right-hand column.

Gerald overcame seeming insurmountable odds to get a college degree and fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot, a profession that he still practices today.  But, he also never let go of the dream to prevent the possibility of another Watts incident.  He realized that uniting to support common interests was an important key to strength. Interdependence among people with the same vision is all-powerful.

While still working his “day” job, Gerald went on to receive his Divinity degree, as well as a degree in Business Management.  He has surrounded himself with accomplished, dedicated people who are passionate about positive change. He has aligned u4abc with networks of information and excellence.

Unity for a Better Community is a coming together of that long-ago dream of a child in Watts coupled with applying 21st century tools and information.

By all accounts, Gerald is on his way to fulfilling his dream, and his mother’s prophecy that we would one day make a difference in the lives of others.

Beginning to Dream Again™

Thought leaders on positive change tell us that it is first necessary to have a vision for change.  (Of course you have to first believe that you are capable of accomplishing your dream, which takes us back to self-esteem). With this reality in mind, and through the blessings of God, U4abc and its partners have begun a new movement, Beginning to Dream Again.  It began through one of our Success Seminars, wherein participants explore their lifelong dreams and ideas, and group dynamics propel ideas into viable action plans.

Through Networking dynamics and group interdependence, the author of a recently released children’s book, Watch out for the Elephants, expanded her book into a vehicle that is now being read in schools throughout the country and an animation film is in the works.  Other book spin-off products are also being developed.

Another seminar participant wrote an exquisite song that takes the Beginning to Dream Again™ movement to another level;  that song is now being set to music and will shortly be available for listening and purchase.  People and corporations are sponsoring the Beginning to Dream Again program in order to make it available for children who otherwise would not have the experience.  You can read more about our seminar leader at www.joycecoleman.com  and www.locusthillpublishing.com.

We are in the midst of working with community leaders to develop viable businesses that serve the community and provide more than mere jobs;  they provide the opportunity for ownership.

These processes are available to communities throughout our country and beyond.  Models similar to ours have spawned productive communities throughout the world.  They have been in place for decades in rural America, and have also migrated to cities.  Recently, it was reported that former workers at what was the Windows on the World restaurant atop the World Trade Center are about to open a restaurant. The workers are utilizing a form of Success-Networking, a co-operative ownership model, for their new restaurant.
